This website provides a general overview of the Collective Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO NU), valid between 1 January and 31 December 2020, and the conditions that apply to you as employees of a Dutch university. It contains the most important information on employment conditions, personality development, leave, safety at work, the employment contract and pension possibilities to be used in a clear and simple way. From 1 June 2020, the new CAO-NU provides for a structural salary increase of 3.0% for university employees who have an employment contract with a Dutch university. Last Friday, 5 June, the social partners met definitively at the CAD-NU. The new CAO-NU will run from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021. Sectoral Disputes Regulation for Dutch Universities 2020 In addition, workers who have an employment contract with a Dutch university on 1 June 2020 will receive a one-off payment of €750 full-time. Part-time employees receive an amount corresponding to their working time. In the case of parental leave, the initial conditions of employment apply. The approval of funding for scientific research defines the mutual obligations concerning staff recruited by the institutions to carry out research funded by the Netherlands Research Council (NWO, Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek).
These are based on the collective agreements of the VSNU (for universities) and the NFU (for university medical centers). The amount of staff costs to be financed can be taken into account in the salary scales of the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (Dutch acronym VSNU). The salary scales were agreed in the scientific research funding agreement and are based on the collective agreement (caO) of Dutch universities.
